Interactive art installation design for Shanghai International Science & Art exhibition.
We were invited to participate in the 2013 Shanghai International Science and Art Exhibition, and design an immersive and abstract installation based on a structure that interacted with people via its lightings. We began with a research on the design patterns of architectural structures, and tried to bring those into our design.
We merged acrylic glass panels with different cross patterns to create a vague feeling. The bars on the center were used as a bearing structure. And we also installed a camera at the center to capture colors on people therefore the LEDs would show those colors, just like a mirror in mist.
For the site construction, we installed several frustum frame structures on the wall and projected a digital animation on them. The atmosphere we created was like in a mysterious fairyland which grabbed people’s attention and interacted with it. People would enjoy the new sense of dimension and different fields of depth.
In this project, I participated in installation form design and construction design.
