Interactive light installation for Nike celebration of Shanghai initiative-X158 flagship store.
“FLEX” is part of Nike’s celebration of the grand opening of its Shanghai X158 flagship store. This exhibition’s main focus was the influence of the nature on art and design from which new Nike products could draw inspiration. Our installation was inspired by the flexibility and movement of nature. The metaphor of the idea came from a simple floating line and form that reflected a wide range of transformation, flow and morphing sequences.
We used a series of organic shapes and transformed one to another which would create a grid wall to interact with people by sight and routes. And we adjusted the form of the plan to create a small semi-circle space, adding more interesting variations and sight communication to people. In the end, we changed the shape of the panel, added different blue acrylic glass panels as a sequence to the inside of basic panels which create an extraordinary flow to illustrate the “FLEX”.
We embedded the installation into the site. And according to actual conditions, we changed some details to make the installation suitable for the site. We arranged the route from entrance to the installation and added a foundation to hold each panel as an orderly sequence. Each transparent acrylic glass panels were rotated at different angles according to the curvatures of the plan curve. Besides, the blue acrylic glass panels were vertical to each of the transparent ones.
In this project, I participated in the installation form design and construction design.
